Jazz Music
Jazz music is a West African style of music. The use of blue notes, improvisation, polyrhythms, syncopation and the swung note are all evident of West African influence to the music.
From the beginning of 20th century in the Southern United States, an African American community developed a musical art called Jazz. Although, from its early developoment, jazz began as a West Coast slang word in the city of Chicago, illinios. It was the beginning for this American Popular Music that spawned a different subgenres, from early 1910 in New Orleans Dixieland, 1930’s the big band style swing and behop in 1940. There are also various jazz influence from Latin America such as Afro-Cuban and Brazilian Jazz from 1950s and 1960s.
From the development of Jazz rock fusion on the 1970s and in 1980s, there came the acid jazz. It is a style of jazz music that blends with influences of Funk and Hip-Hop. Today that we are in the 2000, the music of jazz has spread around the world and has attracted local musical cultures. The aesthetics was adapted to their own environmewnt and giving birth to many distinctive styles of Jazz.
